In western Arizona, Lake Havasu State Park is located on Arizona’s beautiful “west coast” along the Colorado River. The scenic shoreline of Lake Havasu State Park will start at the lighthouse in Lot 4 at the park, then wind its way through the lowland desert and along the shoreline, giving hikers spectacular views. At the end of the hike, explore the Arroyo-Camino Cactus Garden to learn more about the plants that call the most popular state park in Arizona home.
Oracle State Park just north of Tucson in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains is a picturesque spot offering more than 24 miles of trails. The park is a wildlife refuge, so you may spot deer, javelina, foxes or skunks during your hike. The Nature Trail offers views of the Galiuro Mountains and San Pedro River Valley and you can stop at the adobe Nature Blind to look onto the wildlife waterhole in the nearby Cottonwood Wash. Start the hike at the historic Kannally Ranch House, where you can learn more about 1900s ranchers and artisans.
In northern Arizona, explore the state’s newest park – Rockin’ River Ranch State Park. The rustic park opened in February 2024 and offers trails along the Verde River and lush greenery. Plus, the park is home to a wide-array of wildlife and birds, including a spring nesting area for great blue herons. The White Cliffs Trail will give hikers an all-encompassing trail experience from the high desert to the riparian zone along the Verde. Take in the sights and sounds of the river along with awesome birding, wildlife watching, and serenity.
